I've spent many hours watching the Cricket Club, and the Cobblers, and watching bands at the Roadmender. I love this town.\n\nI joined the Green Party in 2010, having previously been a member of the Labour Party. I no longer felt a connection to that party, mainly driven by the support of that party and our local MP for the war in Iraq.\n\nThe Green Party has a consistent set of values at the heart of everything that we say or do, and we recognise that taking care of ourselves and taking care of the environment are the most important things that we can do.\n\nI feel that Northampton has lost its identity over the past 20 years. We've had a succession of councils who seem to think that the town centre will thrive if they knock all trace of originality out of it, and we've had MPs in Northampton North who do as they are told, rarely speaking up for the people and the town that they represent.\n\nIf you really want a change, instead of voting for the Conservative candidate who has been your MP for the past 7 years, or the Labour candidate who was your MP for the 13 years before that, your only choice is to vote for your Green Party candidate.\n\nI guarantee that as a Green MP, I would stand up for Northampton in Westminster and I would demand the best for our town.\n\nThese are my campaign priorities for Northampton.\n\n- The new bus station is not fit for purpose, and it's clogging up the town centre. Northampton needs a new integrated transport policy, which should include better bus lanes, better cycle lanes. park & ride and a new bus station.\n\n- The air quality in the town centre and in Kingsthorpe is terrible. The new integrated transport policy has to feed into the Air Quality strategy so that as well as helping to get Northampton moving again, we are able to get Northampton breathing again as well.\n\n- There needs to be a full independent inquiry into the Sixfields Stadium expansion. The report from the auditors showed that taxpayers money was mislaid with extraordinary lack of scrutiny. We need to shine a light on the scandal. \n\n- Northampton should be a leader in Community Energy. Rather than supporting developers who want to build massive power generators in the town centre, we should be working to encourage the takeup of solar energy and helping to set up small community energy companies.\n\n- Northampton needs more school places, but it doesn't need free schools. Let's get more school places i the areas that we need them, and let's get the council setting up new schools again.\n\nAs I said - I am the genuine change candidate in this election. if you want to move away from the Conservative/Labour duopoly that has represented Northampton North for the past 20 years, vote Green on June 8th.\n\nSteve Miller \nJune 2017"
