"statement": "I am delighted to be giving voters in Hereford and South Herefordshire a strong Green choice again. After 15 years in Eaton Bishop I’m now enjoying city life in Hereford. I work in education and have three children in their twenties.\n\nI will put quality of life at the top of the political agenda: clean energy not fracking, investment in peace and security not nuclear weapons, and decent public transport instead of more tarmac and air pollution. I want to kick private profit out of the NHS and our schools, and bring in a fair voting system where every vote counts.\n\nIn 2015, from a standing start, I won more than half as many votes as Labour, and more than two thirds the LibDem vote. Local Greens have kept the momentum going, and in Ellie Chowns we have another strong green candidate in North Herefordshire. So let’s grasp this opportunity to build the cleanest, healthiest most dynamic rural economy in the UK!\n\nI understand that this turning-point election is about not just the next 5 years, but the next 50. Brexit could mean thousands of laws and trade agreements being re-written, and I am fighting to protect our country from being put up for sale to global corporations. I will scrutinise and challenge all government plans, speak up for Herefordshire, and defend the services, human rights and natural environment that are our true wealth.\n\nAnd whatever the outcome, every single Green vote on June 8th will send a message to the next government that we want a fairer, safer, cleaner future."

"statement": "This is the most important general election in a generation. No-one really knows where Brexit is going to take us, but I have no confidence in Theresa May and her three Brexit Ministers to get Britain a good deal. Ideally, we should stay in the European Union, as it is an essential buttress to our national prosperity, so when a deal has been reached, it should be put to the electorate so we can all say whether that really is what we want. But the election is not only about Brexit. The Conservatives are undermoning and underfunding public services, from the NHS to schools, and that trend must be reversed. Liberal Democrats would add 1p to income tax to plug the gap in NHS funding. Housing is also a priority but it is important that housing development does not eat up greenbelt. There's sufficient brownfield land available. We must preserve our environment and treat animals properly. And yes, that means no lifting of the fox hunting ban!"

"statement": "Kieran Turner, who lives in Todmorden, Calderdale, has been a humanitarian aid worker for 20 years, working in conflict zones and refugee situations from Kosova to South Sudan, and most recently Greece. He is currently working at the University of Bradford.\n\nAt the launch of his election campaign he said,\n\nMany people feel disconnected from politics. In 2015, people who chose not to vote outnumbered those who voted for our MP. This shows us all that the power to change things is in our hands. It’s time to voted for what we really want and believe, and escape the politics of fear, including tactical voting.\n\nOur railways desperately need upgrading – to improve air quality through reducing pressure on roads, and to support employment and local businesses. We will renationalise railways and key infrastructure. We shouldn’t suffer inadequate services while corporate shareholders profit from public money.\n\nWe need a sustainable economy that serves a fair society – not a society that serves economic activity. The stigma‐free safety net of our Citizen’s Income is a key part of this vision.\n\nGreens strongly support animal rights and would ban driven grouse shooting, thereby ending destructive land management practices that increase flood risks.\n\nNuclear weapons serve no useful defence purpose. Some people fear unilateral disarmament but our present government is ignoring UN talks on multilateral disarmament! We would engage with those talks and scrap Trident, freeing £3.6b annually for services like the NHS. Our foreign aid budget is a much better tool for peace – as well as being simply the right thing to do.\n\nTo restore democracy by bringing about fair elections, Greens support an immediate move to proportional representation. Talk of sovereignty and control is meaningless when most of the public is not represented at all in Westminster.\n\nThe EU needs reform, but I love it’s part in maintaining peace and collaboration – the only way to solve global problems. The public should have the final say on the Brexit arrangements, including the choice to abandon the whole nationalistic project."
